Before you buy a dry pool with balls to your child
When my children were small – it was about 20 years ago or a little more – there were not so many different toys on the market, nice, colorful and safe, or even not at all. I currently have over two-year-old grandson and I know how important it is to make the baby product safe. There are a lot of dry ball pools for children on the market, but before buying a dry ball pool with balls for your child – find out what you are buying and whether it is safe for your child. Unfortunately, not every dry pool with balls is suitable to play. However, let’s start from the beginning.
Balls from a proven source
The balls are an inseparable element of a dry pool, and their most important advantage is that they should be certified. The Polish manufacturer should have a document where it is written that the balls are allowed to contact the child. In general, the question is whether the manufacturer has tested the chemical composition of the balls and whether they will not harm children.
The market is currently flooded with balls from China, because access to them is very easy, and in addition they are very cheap. However, ‘Made in China’ is not recommended. I also bought this Chinese crap and it turned out that the seller from whom I bought the product does not have a certificate with the approval to use it by children from the manufacturer.
The size of these balls is less than 5 cm in diameter. These balls are soft and every child can easily crush them in a handle or a child can bite it. I bought a bag of these balls, there were 1000 of them in a bag and the balls are still in the attic – they are not suitable for children’s play. Many sellers, however, use these balls and add them to the dry pools. On Allegro, you can buy such a dry pool with 300 balls for PLN 229. And in this pool you will find these Chinese balls.
The sale goes as much as possible, but nobody wonders about the quality of these balls and how they affect the child. Someone can say that they are ‘only’ balls – of course, but do you know what they are made of? Do they not cause allergies or do they contain harmful agents that oxidize? Think about whether you want your child to play with them.
The dry pool with balls is made taking into account the needs of the child
The pool is made of foam (upholstery foam) and material. These are further elements that should be certified, saying that it is a safe material. The sponge is very important, its quality, hardness and type – the better the sponge the more expensive. If we want to have a dry pool for years, we must be aware that a cheap sponge loses its value after about a year – it begins to crumble, mashing and making a sieve. And the whole process also accelerates the sun, if the pool is placed in a sunny place.
The type of sponge is also very important – because as it turns out, not every sponge (foam) is suitable for the production of dry pools. It should be sufficiently hard but at the same time soft enough for the child to “bend” the pool wall of the pool, lay on them and jump on it. The flexibility of such a sponge is also in the first place. The sponge should return to its original shape even after long folding. Sometimes it takes time but the best sponge is “coming back” to its shapes while playing with children in the dry pool.
Bottom as the basis of the pool
Another important or even very important element of a dry pool for children is its bottom. After searching the market with pools, I know that the standard bottom is 1-2 cm thick. How do you think: is it a lot or little? To check this, take a 2 cm thick sponge and sit on it for several hours. Comfortably? Surely after a few moments you will find out that you do not feel comfortable. Then on Facebook, on groups I read the other mother’s comments that they do not recommend a dry pool with balls because the children do not want to sit in it. Why? Exactly – I would not like to sit on a hard bottom either.
Someone people may say that a 2 cm sponge for a child is okay – maybe, but the child grows, gains weight. Unfortunately, the sponge gets too thin and the child begins to feel a hard surface of the bottom. What if a baby comes up with an idea (and it definitely will), jump from the bed into the pool full of balls? He jumps on a 1-2 cm sponge – it’s like jumping on the floor. There is no depreciation of his jump. Unfortunately, the balls will not stop the jump fully. And baby will fall on the thin bottom. That’s why our BOTTOM in pools is 4 cm, we provide not only baby’s fun but also sometimes adults.
Cover is not only a decorative element
Well, what about the material? What about the cover? After all, it is also an element with which our child has a contact with. There should be also information from the manufacturer that the material has the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 mark, that’s all. Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is a certificate for the product which is covering the properties of finished products or semi-finished products related to health and safety of consumers (including children). All our material suppliers have such marks. The cover is made of material – so unfortunately it gets dirty. Then you have to take off the cover, put it in the washing machine, wash it and dry it on a string and put it on a foam frame.
While writing this article, I was looking for information on the Internet how to take off the cover from other dry pools with balls and put it back on it. What I found mostly was a sentence like that: ‘If you do not have to, do not take it off’ – WOW, why is that? Because it’s very hard to put it on a cotton sponge material that resists. I know what I’m writing about, I also tried to put a cover on the sponge frame – and I’m not going to write, what I was saying to myself while putting it on that sponge. I was also screaming.
An IDEA came to my mind, so that is why our new cover can be put on and put off in a minute. The sponge does not resist – the cover simply “slides” onto the frame, and all this thanks to our innovative method. When a child is playing in the pool very often it gets dirty, so taking it off and putting on a dry pool with balls without our method would be a real nightmare. Thanks to our idea, putting on the cover takes only a few moments and saves a lot of stress and nerves. We make our dry pools with balls not only for children, but also for their parents.
Necessary elements in a dry pool
An additional advantage of our product are handles. As you know, a dry pool with balls sometimes ‘goes’ from one room to the other room or even outside to the garden. And then our ‘ears’ are very useful, you can grab them and carry a dry pool full of balls wherever you want and you do not have to be afraid that it will slip out of your hands and the balls will fall apart on the floor or grass.
You probably think that, the whole text was written to encourage you to buy our pools? I would like to say it! But that’s not why this text was written. All I wanted, dear moms, grandmothers, aunts and everyone in the family, was to tell you that not every dry pool with balls is safe for children. Before you buy such a pool, ask for information on what the dry pool is made of or if materials that have been used are safe – not only for you, but for your children too! Because you dear mother will probably stay safe but your baby can hurt itself.
The baby may get allergy to the Chinese balls! And I’m lucky to have my private pool tester BabyBall, which at the turn of over a year showed us what can be done and it can be done in our dry pool! Believe me, that you can do everything with our pool and it is still remain the same.
